Learning Objectives:
1. Describe the essential components of spirometry testing including the American Thoracic Society standards for acceptable patient effort.
2. Analyse the utility of FEF 25-75% in the context of asthma diagnosis
3. Assess the evidence supporting the use of 10% improvement in baseline FEV1 or FVC as markers for bronchial responsiveness.
Guest Speaker: Dr. Jalal Moolji (Edmonton, AB)
Jalal Moolji is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Pulmonary Medicine at the University of Alberta. He supports the clinical and research mission of the severe asthma clinic, particularly regarding adult-onset, and severe asthma. He also treats patients with other allergic/eosinophilic pulmonary diseases, like non-asthmatic eosinophilic bronchitis, and asthma-COPD overlap syndrome. His primary clinical interest is sleep medicine, including sleep-disordered breathing, insomnia and narcolepsy\ He assists patients with neuromuscular diseases (e.g., Duchenne muscular dystrophy) who require long-term breathing support.

Dr Ling Ling received her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Alberta. She completed Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Alberta and Clinical Immunology and Allergy Residency at McMaster University. She is currently an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Alberta with practice at both the academic institution and private practice.
